Calling all skincare addicts! There’s a new brand in town at Sephora, and she’s clean and full of promise. I’m talking about Beautycounter – the MLM we’ve all heard of has made its way into our beloved beauty emporium. Supposedly it’s only for a limited time though, so I wanted to get this review up ASAP!
The product I’m focusing on today was purchased through my blogging friend Steffanie, who just so happens to be my sorority sister (from a different university). She’s my go-to gal for all things clean beauty, and I know you’ll love her too! She started talking about Beautycounter last year, and I became very intrigued. Not only do they actively advocate for cleaner beauty guidelines, but they ban over 1800 ingredients in their formulas.

Before I get into my review, here’s a run down on my history with clean beauty. During my first pregnancy 8 years ago, I became very aware of the products I was using. I didn’t want to reach for anything that could harm my baby, and I became very aware of chemicals. I fell in love with brands like Tarte, First Aid Beauty, and Supergoop. Back then the market wasn’t very saturated with clean beauty, so those were pretty much my only options. But, I still use many products from each of those brands today.
Fast forward to the present date, and I’ve fallen a little off track. I still reach for cleaner or “cleanish” products here and there, but blogging really got the best of me. Between the PR samples that show up at my door, and the desire to review trendy products, I’ve steered pretty far off path. But, thanks to my third pregnancy, I began to circle back around to cleaner products. The best part? There are SO many new brands to try now! That’s were Beautycounter comes in.
BEAUTYCOUNTER
First things first. The price tag on Beautycounter skincare is steep. I’m no stranger to expensive products. I mean my favorite Erno Laszlo makeup remover was over $50, and I once bought a Chanel lip balm…CHANEL! lol Not sure what I was thinking there. But, I have three kids now so I can’t be spending so much on lotions and serums. Mama has diapers to buy. That’s why I went with the cleansing balm. I knew I’d get tons of use out of it, and since I don’t wear makeup often these days, I knew it would last a while.
I won’t get into how to purchase from a Beautycounter rep, since we’re talking about buying it at Sephora. But, I’ll be sure to include those details when I discuss the foundation I bought from them. Stay tuned for that review!
COUNTER + LOTUS GLOW CLEANSING BALM
I love love love cleansing balms! They are my fav way to remove makeup, so I could not wait to get my hands on this cleaner option. The price tag though. You guys, this 2.53 oz container is $72! Let’s just say my husband does NOT know how much I spent on this 😆 If you can get past the sticker shock, you’ll seriously adore this product!
The balm itself is a solid, but easily melts into fingers with little effort. When applied to dry skin, it transforms into a silky liquid and washes away without residue. It has a pleasant herbal/citrus scent, and it effectively removes all traces of makeup. Prior to this, I was using Farmacy Green Clean and while I really liked it, it never fully removed my Lancôme mascaras. I’d always have a raccoon eye after using it. In fact, none of my cleansing oils could remove my Lancôme mascaras either – and they weren’t waterproof, just normal formulas. To my surprise, the Beautycounter balm removed every last trace…seriously! It was gone. That right there sold me on this forever.
I do followup with a normal face cleanser after this, as I do all cleansing oils and balms, and I find that my skin feels clean but not stripped. I’ve had this balm in my routine for about a month now, and it’s never caused breakouts, and it doesn’t sting my sensitive eyes. I actually hate how much I love this, because it’s so dang pricey. But, good skincare will cost you. So, think of it as an investment for your face 😉
GET IT AT SEPHORA, BEFORE IT’S GONE!
I heard from my Beautycounter source, aka Steff, that the brand was only doing a limited launch at Sephora through October. I’m not sure if that’s changed, or if they plan to extend it, but for now just be prepared for it to disappear from the site next month. Until then, I would definitely check out the cleansing balm! Plus, if you have points saved up, you can now trade them in for $10 off à la Ulta style (still not as good at ULTA rewards but it’s a start).
Have you tried clean beauty products? I’d love to know your fav brands!
