Makeup. It’s fun to buy, but a pain to store. Over the years, I’ve stashed my products in cosmetic bags, caboodles (hello, 90s!), art supply carts, rubbermaid drawers, and pretty much anything else I could find. While all those worked for a while, it wasn’t until I discovered my current organizers that I truly realized how beneficial a great storage system can be. So, today I’ll be sharing my top suggestions – where I bought them, how I use them, and how they’ve helped my makeup routine!
POSH ORGANIZERS
Acrylic organizers are super popular in the beauty community, because they are durable and easy to clean. Plus, clear storage means you’re always seeing your collection, and less likely to ignore products. Unfortunately, most brands are pretty expensive, but that’s not the case with Posh Organizers! Their sets range in price from $99-$159, and their individual add ons can be purchased for $19-$79.
The set I purchased is the Complete Makeup Organizer, which retails for $159.97. It comes with a 5-drawer unit, a 2-drawer unit, and a clear tray. You can stack them (like I did), or use them individually if needed. The 2-drawer unit has tiny feet on the bottom, making it stable and skid resistant, so you won’t have to worry about it slipping or falling.

The drawers themselves are about 1″ tall, so they won’t fit a ton of stuff, but it’s enough to stack two blushes on top of each other or two thin eyeshadow palettes.

What really attracted me to this organizer, is the clear tray it comes with. You can stash your foundation bottles, setting sprays, primers, or any other large items on it so that they don’t clog up your drawers. To really maximize the space, I placed a separate acrylic organizer in the tray, so I can store my most used lipsticks and eyeliners (more on that organizer below).

The drawers slide out nice and smooth, and never feel cheap or wobbly. In the future, I’ll probably add another 5-drawer unit to my vanity, but for now this one has been working great. I can find my makeup easily, and it has taken so much time off my morning routine – no more searching for that blush or lipstick!
ISAAC JACOBS ACRYLIC ORGANIZER (BIRCHBOX STORE)
The acrylic holder I have in the top tray of my Posh Organizer, is from Isaac Jacobs and is currently available in the Birchbox shop for $31.50. It has space for 12 lipsticks (or balms, glosses), plus two tall spaces for liners or mascara, and an empty space in front where I keep my beauty blenders.
This compact organizer would work great in the bathroom, on your vanity, or stored on your other organizer as I did. It’s easy to clean, and it feels thick and sturdy. Plus, how cute is its rose gold accent?! I highly suggest it!
REPURPOSED 3-WICK CANDLES (BATH & BODY WORKS)
If DIY is your thing, then this storage solution is for you! Instead of tossing your old 3-wick candles, put them in the freezer. After a few hours, take them out, remove the wicks with pliers, and gently remove the frozen wax with a butter knife. Throw it in the dishwasher, and you’ve got a clean glass jar that can hold deluxe samples, lip glosses, eyeliners, beautyblenders – the list goes on.
I’ve got about 10 of these jars stashed throughout my house. They can be used in the bathroom to hold cotton balls or q-tips, on your night stand to store EOS lip balms, or even in your office to hold paper clips and pens. Of course, my favorite way to use them is on my vanity 😉 Feeling extra crafty? Add a cute bow, or some glitter for a one-of-a-kind storage jar!
ACRYLIC BRUSH HOLDER (PINKIES ICE BOX)
As my brush collection grew, so did my need for an effective organizer. Prior to purchasing this three section holder, I had my brushes stored in about 5 different jars. It was time consuming to find the right brush, and it was taking up a ton of space on my desk. So, when I stumbled across this I was so happy! It has the same high quality acrylic feel as my other organizers, and I can store about 3/4 of my brushes all in one space.
This particular holder retailed for $19, but the seller of the Etsy shop seems to have gone out of business. Cosmo Cube sells a similar holder (with 6 sections) for $40 and you can find others on Etsy (like this one here).
BRUSH HOLDER (GLITTER MADNESS)
I stumbled upon these adorable brush holder jars on , and now I seriously want them all! They retail for $23 online, and shipping was super fast. The jars hold about 5 large face brushes, or about 15-20 eye brushes, and they look adorable on display!
6 DRAWER HELMER UNIT (IKEA)

Most beauty junkies swear by the Ikea Alex drawers, but I don’t have the space or the budget for those right now. So, I opted for a smaller more compact (and much cheaper) alternative. The Helmer Drawer retails for just $39.99, and it fits perfectly right next to my desk. It holds the makeup I don’t reach for on a daily basis, like PR samples, brand new items (yet to be reviewed or photographed), back ups, or speciality products like glitter and nail tools.
The drawers aren’t the smoothest to open, but they are a great size (not too deep or too shallow) and they hold quite a lot. Once I have a larger office space, I’ll most likely upgrade to the Alex drawers, but for now this works really well and doesn’t break the bank. Plus, you can label the outside of each drawer with tabs, since technically this is mean for an office setting.
MICKE DESK (IKEA)
As for my actual desk, it’s also from Ikea and it retails for just $79. It comes with two large drawers, one I use for camera accessories and notebooks, the other I use for makeup. These are some of the items that didn’t fit in my Posh Organizer, but ones I reach for often enough to want near me (rather than in my Ikea drawers).
That’s it for my makeup storage ideas! Be sure to let me know your favorite way to stash your makeup!

Your storage is beautiful, I have several acrylic sets myself. I buy off amazon for my lipstick cases they are just like $7 and then TJ Maxx and Marshalls have the sets with drawers from $10-$25 which is amazing when you think people pay a hundred dollars hehe
When I saw the price of some acrylic organizers I nearly fell off my chair, like what?!! I’m not paying that much, I can buy 10 TF lipsticks for that price haha Clearly I have priorities 😉
I have an Ikea helmer for my polish collection. I decoupaged the drawer fronts with paper from the Rifle Paper Co. and swapped the handles for some vintage style ones. I wish I had the space to get a second one for my makeup, but right now it lives mostly in a Sephora train case because my bathroom (where I do my makeup) is just too small for anything else. Someday I will have a house with lots of space for a vanity area and then I’ll go to town! 😉
Oh that sounds so cute! I wish I was crafty enough to make the drawers pretty!
I love your makeup addict vase
She makes so many cute designs!
I’m drooling over all of your makeup and your storage! I really need to upgrade some of mine. I have quite a few of those candle jars 😉
Thank you! It’s been an adventure trying to find a system that works, I keep adding to my collection so it gets tricky trying to find a space for it all lol
Julie, this was such a useful post! I have a million different not so great solution. I just bought a set of 3 removable cloth drawers at Target that help, but I think I’ll get the Helmer drawers too. I wish Ikea weren’t almost 100 miles away! And I need to start using my BBW 3 wick candle so I’ll have the jar afterwards! Great post!!
So glad you liked it!! The candle jar thing is so easy and convenient…plus I can justify the price more to my husband haha Like yes, I need 4 more candles 😉 I think you’ll like the helmer drawers, they are a great size for makeup and hold a lot (without being really expensive). I literally live across the street from IKEA, but I know their shipping fees can be steep.
I have almost an identical set up to you with the stacked organizers, ahha. I definitely want to get another big one!
Me too! They are so addicting, and pretty to look at haha
Makeup organization is crazy. I swear I’ve tried it all. Right now, I’m currently cleaning out my makeup stash and reorganizing again. I just got an Alex Unit and honestly, I feel like I need another but I’m too cheap right now to spend the money. They are so expensive. I LOVE the Helmer unit that you have. I might have to purchase one of those. It would be great right by my desk!
I so want an Alex unit, but yeah I’m like ugh I can buy so much makeup for the price of that haha. The helmer drawer is a great little piece for next to a desk, plus it’s less than $40 so it’s so affordable!
You have a great system. I prefer a thin drawer like on your Poshly unit or else it’s hard to find things. As far as Ikea goes, I’d have to beg my sons to get me one and put it together. They owe me a birthday present so that’s a thought!
I hope you get that gift! My husband is the Ikea builder, now way I could do it on my own!
Great storage options! I am a big fan of acrylic too, mainly because I can see what I’m working with. And how great are BB&W candle jars?! I use them for everything.
Yes, love the candles! The first time I did it, my husband was so confused as to why there were candles in the freezer haha
Great organization! And it’s so much fun to see other people’s stuff. Yep… I’m a creeper. 😀 I love my acrylic makeup cases. They are so pretty, easy to keep clean and I love that I can see where everything is. I need a couple more… I’ve overflowed into old, manky Sterlite components and it’s making me twitchy. lol
Oh yes, I remember those sterlite containers! Posh goes on sale every so often, then there organizers are an even better steal!
What a wonderful organization system! This is very helpful because while my collection was once very organized, it has descended into pure chaos!
It can be so tricky to store things neatly, my collection grows so frequently, that I’m sure I’ll need more organizers soon!
I really need to get some new make up storage! I try to keep my make up collection as small as possible, but what I have just isn’t working for me right now. I love using old candle jars for storage!
It’s so hard to keep my collection small, but I always find myself needing every new launch lol
You have a wonderful setup! So neat and organized. I am needing some new storage, but I just don’t have the room for much else. I should start by decluttering old makeup first. Haha! Where did you find the cute little pink gem Beauty Blender holder, it’s so cute!

Thank you!! I’ll be needing another organizer soon, or else I’ll have to de-clutter as well lol! I got the beautyblender holder in a set from Macys, I believe Sephora had it too. Not sure if it’s still available, but maybe try the beautyblender web site!
Great post! I have several helmers (12) plus several acrylic organizers. They help declutter SO MUCH!
Wow, so many helmers! I’m glad I discovered it, it’s a great little drawer!
I have been wanting to get the Helmer drawers for a while now — I missed them when they went on 40% off recently. I was crushed! Ah well, I’ll get them eventually, I’m sure!
I’m always drooling over the clear acrylic drawer organizers, but I’ve never taken the plunge to buy any both because of the price, and because my makeup desk has very little table space, so I don’t know where I would put it.
Totally understand! Acrylic organizers can get so pricey. Posh goes on sale every so often, I got this for like $80 bucks around the 4th of July. I’d follow their social media to track sales, it’s so worth it!
I love Lucite organizers!
These are all fantastic! I need like 2 of those Helmers and that makeup brush holder! 🙂
Thanks. I need one of each 🙂
I really like this for makeup storage. I really want to get some sets. But no way can I afford that much right now. Amazon has them for a pretty good prices also. May or may not be built alike. But that’s a chance I’m willing to take I have several candle jars I use also. Different sizes and put sticker jewels and cute stickers that are vanity things. Like band mirror, high heels, lipstick etc. thanks so much for sharing.
These are all really great ideas! I use the Ikea Alex 5 drawer and it’s perfect for me! I really, really love that brush holder! It’s so adorable!
The brush holder is my fav!
Everything looks so organized! I need to get some trays to store my small yet it takes space makeup collection haha I saw trendmood had a tray collaborated and has a tray for $25 which sounds like a good deal
I saw that Trendmood tray too, it looks cute!
OMg I love Susie’s Brush holders! I am debating to get more!
Aren’t they so cute!? I definitely want more! 🙂
