Billie Razors Subscription – Worth the hype?

Here at Collective Beauty we talk all things beauty, and that includes shaving. In the past I’ve raved about shave oils, and various razors, but none of them were quite as genius as the new Billie Razor Subscription service. These razors have been all over social media, so I decided to give them a try. I wanted to know if they were worth the hype, or just another “influencer” scheme. Come see what I thought!

Not familiar with Billie Razors? Here’s the lowdown. Billie Razors are ordered online, and delivered to your home on an auto-delivery schedule. The best part is you can decide what that schedule is. If you shave everyday they offer a once a month delivery option, or for more sporadic shaving you can opt for every 2-3 months. To get started, you purchase a kit that comes with the razor handle, two refills, and a magnet for easy in-shower storage – the magnet is seriously cool!

The huge benefit of this subscription is not having to think about buying razors. They just show up, and you’re all set. The other amazing perk, they are extremely affordable. Unlike the $18+ dollar razor refills at Target and CVS, these babies are cost effective and super budget friendly. That handy welcome kit? It will set you back just $9.

Billie also offers a variety of extras, such as a travel case, lotion, shave cream, and even a glow in the dark handle. I’ve tried the shave cream, and it’s awesome. It doesn’t dry out my skin, and it really leaves my legs soft and smooth. You can add these extras anytime to your order for a one time delivery, though I do wish I could schedule the shave cream for auto-delivery. It’s so good!

As for the recurring charge, that’s also very budget friendly. I opted for delivery every 2 months, and it costs me $9 for four razor heads. Since the razors last a good while my refills have really piled up. Plus, they keep showing up, so my stash has grown to a nice size. I do shave every 2-3 days, so delivery every 2 months has been fantastic. Anything more than that, and I’d have way too many razor refills stashed in my bathroom drawer.

WORTH THE HYPE?

I’ve been subscribed to Billie since last summer (around 6 months), and so far I really like it. The razors aren’t anything revolutionary, but not having to go to the store for refills that cost way too much, and not having to deal with the ones behind those clunky plastic security displays (I’m talking about you CVS), is glorious for this busy mama.

As for the quality, I think these are right on par with the Gillette Venus or Schick Quattro. The handle is durable and easy to hold, and the razors don’t turn dull overnight. They feature 5 blades (they are super sharp so be careful), and they are encased in charcoal soap for a smooth shave. Admittedly, I don’t change out the razor heads as much as I should (hence the large stash I’ve accumulated), but even so I never get razor burn. I’ve long since ran out of the Billie brand shave cream, and use my Skinfix body oil wash, and even with that my shave is always close and smooth. So, don’t think you have to buy the shave cream.

Another plus is the magnet holder. This is such a simple concept, but it is seriously a game changer. All you do is stick it to your shower wall, and the magnetic handle clips right on. It doesn’t fall off the wall, and it keeps the razor head from getting all goopy and gross.

GO GET YOU SOME

Overall, I’d say hell yes this product is SO worth the convenience and the cost. You can choose from a variety of handle colors, and update or cancel your subscription easily online at anytime.

However, before I log off and encourage all you beautiful ladies to go buy these razors,  i want to address something that has seriously irked me. As a blogger I understand we all want to share our awesome finds, and maybe make a little money doing so. But, the amount of over the top claims I’ve seen on Instagram regarding these razors baffles me.

THEY ARE JUST RAZORS…

NO, your hair will NOT grow back slower with these. They are just razors, not a speciality removal product. I can’t tell you how many fashion influencers claim they don’t have to shave as often with these – *eye roll* please don’t believe this. Also, you can and will get cuts if you’re not careful. These blades are SHARP, and yes I’ve cut myself a few times when trying to go super fast. I’m used to other razors dulling quicker, so sometimes I forget how sharp these are (even after many shaves). Finally, to go along with the hair growing slower claim, it also won’t cause hair to grow in thinner. Again, these are razors and won’t affect the speed or texture of your hair growth. I keep seeing these claims, and wanted to clear that up.

Enough of my little rant, now go get some of these fantastic razors and stop buying the over priced store brands that cost a fortune. You won’t regret it!
