One of the not-so-lovely side effects of turning 33, has been the influx of gray hairs; what started out as one or two strands, has now turned into a crown of gray. Although I do my best to keep up with coloring, they reappear as soon as my roots grow in. But, thanks to Gray Away, there’s a super easy fix for this pesky problem!
Gray Away is a fast, and affordable, line of products available at Walgreens. It comes in a spray or powder, and easily covers gray in just seconds. Each formulation offers three shades, Black/Dark Brown, Light Brown, and Lightest Brown/Medium Blonde. The shade I chose was Black/Dark Brown, which matched my roots perfectly.
GRAY AWAY TEMPORARY ROOT CONCEALER
The spray formulation retails for $9.99, and features a pinpoint applicator for precise coverage. Each bottle can be used up to 40 times, and the formula promises to be washable, flake free, and sweat resistant. It’s free of harsh chemicals and dyes, and leaves hair feeling soft and natural.
How to use: Hold can 2-3 inches from hair, and move hand continuously while spraying.
Thanks to its unique self-adjusting color technology, Black/Dark Brown matched my hair without any telltale sign of product on my roots. It felt comfortable, and lasted all three days between washings. I didn’t experience any flaking, or dryness, and as promised, it easily washed away without any fuss.
GRAY AWAY ROOT TOUCH-UP MAGNETIC POWDER
If sprays aren’t your thing, you’ll love the Gray Away Root Touch-up Magnetic Powder. It retails for $9.99, and features the same color adjusting technology. What makes this powder unique is its ability to bind to each strand like a magnet, providing all day coverage of grays.
How to use: Remove the base, to reveal the hidden sponge. Dip the sponge into the color, and apply to roots as needed.
This powder performs much like an eyeshadow: its silky and smooth, and easily adheres to each strand. You’ll notice it also contains finely milled shimmer, which gives the hair a subtle shine. The formula is highly pigmented, washes out easily, and stays all day without fading.
BEFORE & AFTER
As you can see, my before was gray hair with a dull finish, while the after is vibrant, brunette, and gray free! I was still able to go my usual 3 days between washings, and never experienced any flaking. The left side of the before/after photo was touched up with the spray, while the right was covered with the powder. Both matched perfect, and both formulas provided opaque coverage. The powder side was a tad shinier, which isn’t surprising given the shimmer finish of the product.

What do you think of Gray Away? I’d love to know!
I have this to try and based on your before and after pictures-I can’t wait to give this a try! My crown area shows grey as soon as my roots start showing. It’s so frustrating and can make giong to my stylist so expensive beause i feel like I’m needing to cover those areas so much more often than the rest of my hair.
Yes! you need to try it! It lasted me three days between washings. It’s perfect for special occasions, when you’re in between colorings!
They work so well for you!
I’m definitely picking some up, I will be needing a touch up soon and it will save me so much money!
First, I can’t believe you’re 33. I thought you were still in your 20s! I use something very similar if not the same as the powder that you’re reviewing. I love it!
Wow, that is so effective! I might have to pick this up! Your before and after pictures sold me!
I love this stuff. I have been using the Magnetic Powder for the last week and a half because my hairdresser was out of town. Today I didn’t use it after I washed my hair because I wasn’t going anywhere and sure enough this was the first time my husband noticed the gray. But it will be gone tomorrow!
Grey hairs are my nightmare! I pluck mine out with tweezers!
