Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, which means there’s only a few days left to decide what type of makeup look you’ll be rocking. Personally, I’m a pink gal – pink lips, lids, cheeks (you can see that in action here). But, what better day to play around with a bold red lip than on the day of love! Not sure where to start? No worries, because Pixi Beauty has got you covered.
Retailing for $12 at Target and pixibeauty.com, the Mattelustre Lipsick in Raspberry Blush in packed with lip loving ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins C and E. It promises to create fuller, smoother lips while delivering intense color that lasts for hours.
Since my lips tend to be chapped, I always make sure to exfoliate before applying lipsticks, especially if I’m reaching for darker shades. My current go-to exfoliator is from Treat Beauty, it comes in stick form and it’s super easy to use. Once I’ve finished, I then apply a light layer of balm for hydration. A great option is the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm.
A secret weapon when wearing dark lip shades, is a clear lip liner. The Pixi Lip Contour Liner in Invisible Smudge retails for $12, and helps prevent feathering and smudging, plus it fills in lines and works with any lip color. It contains aloe vera, peptides, and sodium hyaluronate to smooth and plump, while remaining undetectable on the lips.
To create the perfect red lip, I applied the Lip Contour Liner to the outside of my lips, then carefully applied Raspberry Blush. This lipstick is super pigmented and opaque, so slow application is a must, especially if you’re not used to wearing dark shades. Despite it’s name, the finish of the lipstick is glossy, but you can blot it with your finger for a more matte look.
The finished look is bright, bold, and perfect for v-day. But, best of all there’s no feathering! I get about 4 hours wear with the Mattelustre Lipsticks, though they will transfer if not careful. The liner is easy to apply, goes on smoothly, and doesn’t interfere with lip colors. Interested in getting these for yourself? You can pick up both products at Target, for less than the price of most high end lipsticks!
What lipstick shade will you be wearing this Valentine’s Day? I’d love to know!

That’s a really beautiful red! It doesn’t look or sound like the traditional matte that I usually avoid. I didn’t know Pixi had a universal lipliner, nice
The clear liner is new to the lineup! The Mattelustres are nice, definitely not fully matte. I prefer a sheen to my lips, so I really like it!
Gorgeous color on you Julie!! There’s nothing better than a classic red lip!
Thanks, Christine! I don’t normally rock red lips, but this one is pretty!
That is such a gorgeous red, and it looks positively amazing on you, Julie!
Thank you! Red lips aren’t really in my comfort zone, but this one is nice!
The lip liner is perfect for a red lip. While I like the Pixi Mattelustres I need lighter colors. This looks so pretty on you but I understand that comfort level.
I’m definitely more comfortable in lighter shades, but the clear liner certainly helps with application!
I looove these Pixi lipsticks! So creamy!
They are!! The formula rivals a lot of my higher end lippies!
Such a great red! I need to add a clear lip liner to my stash. They’re so useful for bold shades.
Definitely a must have!
Such a pretty red and it looks beautiful on you! x

Thank you! I’m not so much a red fan, but this one is so pretty 🙂
While I love a red lip, I actually went make up free this valentines day!
You always look beautiful, but you really kill that red lip! Love it!!
Thanks so much, Katie! 🙂
