Happy Tuesday, beauties! As most of you know, I’m currently on vacation. But, I’ve been raving about this facial scrub for what seems like an eternity, so it’s time to finally give it a proper review!
Whether your skin is dry, oily, aging, or normal, everyone can benefit from a great scrub. It sloughs away dead skin, removes impurities, and leaves skin feeling baby smooth. There are all sorts of exfoliators on the market, but this one from Peter Thomas Roth combines great ingredients with a unique application method, making it one of the most interesting scrubs I’ve tried!
Retailing for $38 at Sephora, this promises to deliver smooth radiant skin by exfoliating manually, enzymatically, and chemically to repair and moisturize the surface. It’s formulated with jojoba beans, glycolic acid, papaya enzymes, and dragon blood – YES, dragon blood 😆 It can be used as often as needed, and it’s free of sulfates and phthalates.
Before I get too far into my review, I want to quickly explain my skin type. It’s dry/combination, so it’s acne prone in my t-zone and super dry on my cheeks, but it’s also really sensitive. When it comes to my skin care, it’s imperative that I find products that aren’t too abrasive, but that also help combat acne.
Unlike most exfoliators, that require you to manually scrub away the surface of your skin, this one combines two methods – manual and chemical exfoliation. First, you gently massage this onto your face, then you let it sit for 2-7 minutes. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you’ll feel a mild to moderate tingle as the enzymes go to action. Once the time is up, just rinse, and moisturize as usual.
The scrubbing beads aren’t large or scratchy, but they’re still substantial enough to slough away dead skin. Plus, the enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids also go to work, so you’re getting double the exfoliation in one treatment. It sounds intense, but it’s surprisingly gentle.
As far as the claims go (which can be seen on the photo of the bottle above), this definitely leaves my skin looking clear, even, and bright. My face always feels buttery soft afterward, and it’s never caused burning or irritation. I don’t think it does anything to reduce the look of fine lines, but that’s not really surprising. Although my face doesn’t look “dramatically younger” after using this, it does deliver excellent exfoliation results.
I’m nearly done with this tube, so I can safely say this stuff is amazing! The smaller beads, and the combo of chemical exfoliants, makes it great for those with all skin types. Just be sure to use sunscreen, because the alpha hydroxy acids will make your skin more susceptible to sunburn.
What kind of scrubs do you prefer? I’d love to know!

That looks like such a nice exfoliant! Dragons blood, makes me laugh!
I like a range of different scrubs for different body parts, im quite picky about how abrasive some need to be x
I really like chemical and manual exfoliation products, so this sounds like something I would LOVE! Great review Julie and hope you are having fun on vaca and the weather stays nice for you! 🙂
I love a good exfoliater…it’s probably my favorite step of my skin care routine, wish I could do it everyday! I’ll look more into this product!

Ah it is great to hear about a scrub that is good. Clear skin is definitely a good sign. x
I tend to prefer scrubs with natural ingredients like apricot or walnut, but I’m open to trying any product that doesn’t mess with my combination skin too much.
I like that this combines manual and chemical exfoliating- that’s what I usually look for in a scrub!
Ohh! this kind of looks like the Michael todd almond scrub. I need to try this. have fun on vacation!
This sounds super lovely! I’m using a scrub from Nip+Fab at the moment which has glyvolic acid in, I love it and it’s really affordable 🙂

This sounds lovely. I rarely use manual scrubs, but when I do I really notice the difference x
