Happy Friday! For today’s look I wanted to create something bright and fun, using the new NYX Prismatic eyeshadows. I was inspired by the aqua green shade called Mermaid, so that’s the type of look I created. It’s definitely not something I would wear to the office, but it’s fun and girly and different from my usual natural eye!
FACE:
- Tarte Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer
- MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20
- NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Santa Fe
- Cargo_HD Foundation Powder #20
- Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
EYES/BROWS:
- Tarte Amazonian Clay Volumizing Brow Powder in Rich Brown
- LORAC Behind The Scenes Eye Primer
- Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bikini-tini
- NYX Prismatic Eyeshadow in Girl Talk & Mermaid
- Makeup Forever Eyeshadow in D-926 (crease) and M-530 (blending)
- Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Liner in Plushie
- Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Crave
- Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara
- Kiss False Lashes in Dreamy
CHEEKS:
- Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
- Painted Earth Mineral Silk Radiance Powder in Seychelles
- Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose
LIPS:
- YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in #12 Tasty Raspberry
- Jouer Lip Gloss in Peony
EYES….For my base I used Benefit’s Bikni-tini cream shadow, then applied NYX Girl Talk to the first half of my lid and Mermaid to the second half. I added a pop of purple from the Makeup Forever Studio Case to my crease, and a tiny bit of black shadow to my outer corner, then lined my upper water line with Urban Decay Crave. I was short on time, so I didn’t wing out my liner, but I think it would be a great touch for this look!
*I’ve been testing out the Velour Lashes lash glue stick and so far I’m not impressed. The pen gets clogged after each use, and my lashes always lift at the edges. I’ll be sticking with my House of Lashes glue from now on!*
FACE….I primed my face with Tarte’s Clean Slate Smoothing Primer, then applied NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. I buffed it in with an It Cosmetics foundation brush, and then went over any cakey areas with a dampened beauty blender. Next, I set everything with a tiny bit of powder and applied the MAC concealer to my under eye area.
CHEEKS…This foundation can make cheek colors appear a little patchy, but first I contoured with the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, then added Romantic Rose to the apples of my cheeks. I finished off with my current favorite highlighter from Painted Earth, applying it lightly to my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose.
LIPS…I’m not going to sugar coat it, my lips were in dire straits in these photos. I saw a photo on Facebook of mold growing on EOS lip balms, and I sort of went on a germaphobe rampage and threw all mine away. Because those were all I had to hydrate my lips, they got chapped, very very chapped. I used a sugar scrub before doing my makeup, but still they’re sad looking. I didn’t want to draw a lot of attention to them, so I chose a soft hydrating lip gloss from Jouer.
I hope you enjoyed my Face of the Day. If you have any suggestions on a great lip mask/treatment, please let me know! Have a great weekend, beauties!

That’s a wonderful way to use an aqua shadow. I will use that inspiration from you, if you don’t mind! Beautiful look, as always Julie! Question, I noticed that you use a cream base on top of shadow primer and under the powder shadows…what role does the cream base play? I was wondering whether my shadows would benefit from me doing this too.
I would love to see a look from you using the aqua this way! Using a cream base, like this one from Benefit, under powder shadows really makes the shadows pop. In fact, today I’m wearing Bikini-tini under MAC All That Glitters, and it just gives it that extra oomph. I place it over a primer to give it some added crease protection. Since I live in South Florida, the humidity can make cream bases crease on me. Thankfully, the LORAC primer underneath prevents that! 🙂
I will try using the cream shadow as a base. It is so dry here in cold MA, but my eyes are dry so maybe it’ll be added moisture plus I’d like to see what it will do to the powder shadow looks. Thank you Julie!
This is such a perfect mermaid look without being over the top crazy. The shadows look perfectly blended. And thanks for that tip on the lash glue!
Thank you! And yes, the lash glue isn’t the greatest now that I’ve given it a good go. At first I though it was great, but I have been so frustrated at how my lashes keep lifting, and since this lash glue is black it gets everywhere if you aren’t careful 🙁
I love this! When you said you were using the mermaid eyeshadow, I was expecting to see something totally different. Your eyeshadow looks like it was done with watercolor paints–the colors you used and the placement of them makes this a really beautiful look!
Thank you! I was half way through this look, and wasn’t sure if it was going to turn out okay. Phew, thank goodness it did! lol I do want to play around with Mermaid some more, but it’s so bright I’m not sure I can make it work all over the entire lid.
I love this look! It is so perfect for spring. I have a couple palettes that have a similar aqua color…I may need to start using them a bit more!
It’s a tricky shade to use, but I think adding it as a pop of color in the outer corner really adds a fun effect to any look! 🙂
Lookin’ beautiful, as always! I saw that EOS FB post too! (Or at least one just like it!) I’ve never had any problems with my EOS! I wonder why that one girl got mold on hers.
Mine have never grown mold either, but ah it was enough to freak me out! lol
Those NYX shades are just GORGEOUS! Love it!
I love how affordable they are, without compromising the quality!
Love the eyes! So pretty! Perfect for Spring time 😉 x

Thank you! 🙂
Such a pretty look and your eyeshadows are so beautifully blended together! Well done! Everyone is raving about the Bite Agave mask lip treatment, maybe you should try that!
I have heard such great things about that mask, so it’s definitely on my wish list! I hate that my lips get so chapped without a balm 🙁
I have to get my hands on those NYX goodies – the packaging is absolutely adorable. 😉 Girl, you always have the most rockin’ looks… love this. So pretty for spring.
Aw, thank you! 🙂 These shades are so pretty, I want them all!
Love how you did your eyes! I need your help, so pretty!
Thank you! It takes some practice, but you could get the hang of it! 🙂
Your eyeshadow is gorgeous! I’m not usually one for applying fun colors to my lids but you always make me rethink that!
OK, this look is absolutely perf! It actually does look mermaid-esque, and you contoured your eyes beautifully. A+!
